Bernadette Hince

Bernadette Hince is a writer, historian and dictionary-maker. Her main interests are polar words and history, language, and food. In 2000 she published 'The Antarctic dictionary: a complete guide to Antarctic English (CSIRO/Museum Victoria). She has also written about the subantarctic islands (Îles Kerguelen, Île Saint-Paul, McDonald, Heard, Macquarie, Auckland and Campbell Islands), and has a new book about Heard Island in press (due early 2011, National Library of Australia).

Bernadette lives in Canberra, where she is a visiting fellow in the Australian National Dictionary Centre at the Australian National University, and an associate of the National Museum of Australia.

Nick Drayson

Nicholas Drayson was born in England and has lived in Australia since 1982, where he studied zoology and got a PhD in 19th century Australian natural history writing. He has worked as a journalist in the UK, Kenya and Australia, writing for publications such as the Daily Telegraph, Australian Women's Weekly and Australian Geographic.

He has also written for the National Museum of Australia. His first novel, Confessing a Murder, was published in 2002. His latest is A Guide to the Birds of East Africa (Penguin, 2008). He was recently the winner of the inaugural Wildcare Tasmania Nature Writing Prize.
